Paying the LEZ charge

Pay a LEZ charge

If your vehicle doesn’t meet the emissions standards, the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) daily charge is £100 for larger vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles, and £200 for lorries, buses, coaches and other specialist heavy vehicles.

Payment for the daily charge can be made:

  • Up to 64 working days before the day of travel
  • On the day of travel
  • Up to midnight on the day after driving within the LEZ
  • If you travel in on a Friday, you have until midnight the next working day to pay the LEZ daily charge

The charge is the same on whichever of these days you pay.

Can I pay for more than one vehicle at a time?

Yes, if you know in advance which vehicles will be driven within the LEZ on which days.

What if I’ve hired a vehicle?

If you intend to drive within the LEZ, you should check with your hire company that the vehicle meets emissions standards. If it doesn’t, and the hire company hasn’t made an arrangement to pay the daily charge, you’ll need to pay it.

Do I still need to pay other charges?

Remember, the LEZ is not the same as the central London Congestion Charge zone and the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). The Congestion Charge applies 07:00-18:00, Monday to Friday excluding public and Bank Holidays and the ULEZ runs every day at all hours. If you drive within either of these charging zones during these times, you will have to pay them even if you meet the LEZ standards or have already paid the LEZ daily charge.

LEZ daily charges

We would prefer that your vehicle meets LEZ standards. However, if you’re not able to take the measures needed, then you can drive within the zone by paying a daily charge.
