NORTHERN IRELAND (NI) DRIVER LICENCE CHECK WITH THE VEHICLE AGENCY (DVA)

Drivers who use their Driving Licence from Northern Ireland to drive in the UK, can consent to have their Licence validated for their employer by DriverCheck. DriverCheck has established agencies throughout the world, from whom they receive Driver Licence data, which is uploaded to the Client’s Portal.

This service helps employers to fulfil their ‘duty of care’ for their drivers, and also fulfils the need to satisfy the Fleet Insurer that all drivers have a valid licence.

Differences between NI and GB licences

Changes made to the format of the Great Britain driving licences from 8 June 2015 have no affect on licences from the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) in Northern Ireland. NI licences are still made up of two parts, a plastic photocard and paper part which is known as the paper counterpart.

Northern Ireland driving licences are made up of two parts, a plastic photocard and a paper part, known as the paper counterpart. You must tell the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) immediately of any changes to your name, address or your health.

Keep your details correct

Informing the DVA of your changed details will make sure your records are up to date and all future driving licence renewal notices are sent to the right address.

Change of address

If you permanently move to another country, the DVA can’t register your new address on your Northern Ireland driving licence. You’ll need to contact the driving licence authority in your country of residence for information on exchanging.
